In accordance with our name, Academia Church takes an academic approach to reading, teaching, and living out the scriptures. There have been numerous advances over the last 150 years in the disciplines of archaeology and sociology, which have helped Bible scholars get a clearer picture of what the world of the first century looked like. The unearthing of ancient coins, religious temples, and the increased attention to Gentile writers of the time has taught us much about the world superpower-the Roman Empire- which was responsible for crucifying Jesus. The discovery and translation of the Dead Sea Scrolls, coupled with renewed vigor in studying the Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha, and the discussions of early Rabbis in the Mishnah, has enhanced our understanding of Jesus’ Jewish worldview and audience.
The pastors at Academia serve as a bridge between the scholars and congregants. The scholarly research on the first century Jewish and Greco-Roman world sets the background for the Bible, providing a fresher and more accurate comprehension of God, his word, and the life of Jesus. We invite you to learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus in our world- both then and now!
